A woman salvages building material after her shack was burnt down in a conflict between right-wing ‘witdoeke’ vigilantes and the ANC ‘comrade’ groupings. In this week of violence, thousands of shacks were burnt down as vigilantes attacked militant-controlled areas, and many were killed or injured. The security forces were siding with the witdoeke during this conflict.
