Johanna-Maria Fritz’s first major institutional solo exhibition of 2025 focuses on works created during the first 10 years of her career, between 2014 and 2024. The exhibition highlights seven photographic projects with images taken in Afghanistan, Albania, Austria, Dagestan, Gaza, Germany, Iceland, Indonesia, Iran, Italy, Nepal, Palestine, Romania, Senegal and Ukraine.
Fritz finds her subjects in conflict and war zones, in crumbling states, among persecuted minorities, and on the fringes of society. This exhibition offers a glimpse into the already remarkable body of work of the 30-year-old artist. Fritz works in a journalistic style, with her images appearing in international media. She often works on multiple topics simultaneously, with interruptions, returning repeatedly to the same places and people. She typically stays for extended periods, living with the people she photographs, and develops new approaches from her work, which she then continues to pursue.
The exhibition is organized in collaboration with FKWBH and will be showcased at the Willy-Brandt-Haus in Berlin.
