Steve Bandoma, born in 1981 in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Kongo,
graduated with a bachelor's degree from the Académie des Beaux Arts in Kinshasa in 2004. In 2005, he moved to Cape Town, South Africa, where he trained as a multimedia artist. He first traveled to Zurich in 2009 and finally to Paris for an artist residency at the Cité Nationale des Arts. When Bandoma returned to Kinshasa in 2012, he exhibited his work at the Centre Wallonie-Bruxelles Kinshasa and Institut Français de Kinshasa. His works address colonial as well as post-colonial oppression in a playful, often ironic way. His mixed media paintings have an explosive aesthetic, which upon closer inspection, however, reveal a chaos with a system. For Bandoma, every artist is also a politician. Accordingly, his works impressively convey to the viewer his perception of social and political reality.
Since 2010, Steve Bandoma's works have been exhibited international in galleries, art fairs and museums.
