WORKS FOR AKAA
The works shown at the AKAA pay homage to the old practice of scarification and tribal marks in Africa.
The artist uses self-made photo portraits of people he comes across in his body of work as starting point upon which he meticulously reworked by hand. The marks incised on skins reveals the ethnic or cultural identity of people in different parts of Africa.
"We could always tell from the type of tribal marks the family lineage of the bearer. The scarification practice is gradually dying out. Loye’s portrait bring this old artform into the present. … My work talks about Identity and Beauty”
